Apprendre une langue n’est jamais une mince affaire, mais c’est une partie essentielle pour comprendre une autre culture. L’Alliance Française fait office de porte d’entrée pour tous ceux qui souhaitent non seulement maîtriser la langue de Molière, mais aussi découvrir les codes culturels de la France et de son peuple.
Peux-tu te présenter en quelques mots ? Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
Salut, je m'appelle Wilfred. J'ai grandi à Hong Kong et j'apprends le français depuis deux ans. J'adore
apprendre de nouvelles choses, car cela me procure un sentiment d'accomplissement, au lieu de me concentrer uniquement sur mon travail tous
les jours. Je fais aussi beaucoup d'exercice, et je pense que l'exercice est bon pour le corps et l'apprentissage pour l'esprit. C'est une
belle aventure jusqu'ici !
Hi this is Wilfred, I grew up in Hong Kong and have been learning French for 2 years. I love learning new things because it gives me a
feeling of accomplishment instead of just focusing on work every day. I do exercise quite a lot as well, and I think exercise is for the
body and learning things are for your mind. It’s been a nice journey so far!

ce qui t'inspire à apprendre le français? Parle-nous de ton parcours d'apprentissage du français ? What inspires you to learn French?
Can you tell us about your learning journey?
En
résumé, je travaille dans une société de conseil informatique française depuis trois ans où beaucoup de Français y travaillent. J'ai
l'impression que ce serait une excellente occasion d'apprendre le français pour mieux communiquer avec eux. De plus, je reçois parfois des
e-mails de France, ce qui me permettrait également de répondre en français.
Pour ce qui est du parcours d'apprentissage, je trouve que c'est parfait, car les professeurs sont vraiment sympas. Je suis actuellement en
A205 et j'ai commencé en A101. J'ai rencontré quatre professeurs jusqu'à présent, avec des méthodes d'enseignement différentes, et je pense
que cela m'aide dans le sens où certains me poussent à réfléchir et d'autres à stimuler ma créativité. Par exemple, il y a un professeur qui
adore utiliser différentes activités pour nous encourager à parler français, et j'adore ça ! Plus important encore, j'ai beaucoup de
chance d'avoir des camarades de classe formidables. Ils sont tous vraiment superbe et bienveillant. Dès que j'ai des difficultés, ils sont
toujours prêts à m'aider. Pour être honnête, je ne suis pas le meilleur de la classe, mais ils sont toujours prêts à me guider !
So basically, I have been working in a French IT
Consulting firm for 3 years and there are quite a number of French working there. I feel like it would be a great opportunity for me to
learn French in order to be communicating with them better and also sometimes I would be receiving emails from France, so I could be able to
reply the emails in French as well.
For the learning journey, I think it’s perfect as in
teachers are really nice, I am currently in A205 and I started in A101. I have met 4 teachers so far, they are have different teaching
methods and I think it helps me in a way that some can provoke me to think and some can ignite my creativity. For example, there’s a teacher
loves using different activities to encourage us speaking French and I love it! More importantly, I am very lucky to have some fantastic
classmates. They are all really superb and helpful as well. Whenever I have any difficulties, they are always willing to help. To be honest,
I am not the best in class, but they are always willing to give me guidance!
Comment l’apprentissage du français a-t-il changé ta façon de voir le monde et d’interagir avec les autres? How has learning French
changed the way you see the world and connect with people?
Savoir lire la carte d'un restaurant français ? Plus sérieusement, je pense qu'il y a beaucoup de mots français dans notre
quotidien et je partage aussi ce que j'apprends avec mes amis, et certains sont intéressés, surtout ceux qui boivent. Comme vous le savez,
il existe de nombreux bons vins français, et je dirais que comprendre le français peut enrichir vos expériences de voyage en France !
Able to read the menu in a French restaurant? But seriously, I think there are actually many French words around us in our daily
lives and also, I do share my learning experience with my friends and some of them are actually interested, especially those who drink. As
you know, there are many good French wine, and I would say if you understand French, it can enhance your travel experiences to France!
Qu'est-ce qui t'as amené à travailler dans une entreprise française et
comment le fait de parler français t'as-t-il aidé dans ton rôle ?What led you to work in a French company, and how has speaking
French helped in your role?
Je
dirais que j'ai eu beaucoup de chance. Je travaillais dans le recrutement. Un jour, j'ai reçu un appel de mon patron actuel, lui aussi
français, qui m'a dit : « Wilfred, es-tu intéressé par un poste RH en interne ? » J'étais déjà intéressé par ce poste
depuis un moment, et après quelques entretiens, j'ai été embauché. Ces trois années dans l'entreprise française ont été les plus belles de
ma carrière, car ils sont très transparents et prêts à accompagner les employés dans leur développement. Par exemple, mes cours à
l'Alliance française sont subventionnés par mon entreprise.
Et parler français est très utile à mon poste. Par exemple, avant, je ne faisais que des publications en anglais, mais récemment, j'ai
essayé de rédiger une publication en français, et cela m'a permis d'attirer beaucoup de candidats français, ce que je recherche ! J'étais
vraiment ravie de voir le résultat. De plus, quand les Français parlent au bureau, je me sens moins isolée. Je ne peux pas dire que je
comprends à 100 %, mais j'espère que ce sera le cas un jour !
I would say that I got very lucky. I used to work in the recruitment field. And one
day I got a call from my current boss, who is also a French, he is like oh Wilfred are you interested in an in-house HR role? I actually
was interested in in-house role for awhile, and after a few rounds of interview, I just got hired. And these 3 years in the French company,
it has been the best days in my career as in they are really transparent and are willing to help with the employees’ growth. For instance,
my courses in alliance française is actually subsidized by my company.
And speaking French is super useful in my role. For example, I used to do English LI posts only, but recently I actually tried to write a French LI posts, and it did help me to attract a lot of French candidates which I am actually looking for! I was really ecstatic when I saw the result. Moreover, when the French are talking in the office, I feel less isolated right now. I can’t say I understand 100% now, but hopefully I will one day!

des cours à l'Alliance Française ! (MDR) Je dirais de te plonger dans le français. J'ai une playlist française sur Spotify, dont les
chansons me sont recommandées par mes professeurs et mes camarades. J'ai aussi regardé une série française sur YouTube, Extra French, une
série pour les apprenants de français, et j'adore ! C'est comme la série Friends, mais en français. J'utilise Duolingo tous les jours, donc
je pense que ça pourrait beaucoup aider ! Et quand tu obtient un meilleur niveau, je pense que passer le DELF serait aussi une option pour
savoir où tu en es. En me plongeant dans le français, ça m'aide à progresser beaucoup plus vite.
Take courses in Alliance Française! (LOL) I would say shower yourself in French.
Like I have a French playlist in spotify which the songs are recommended by the teachers and classmates. Also, I have been watching some
French series in youtube called Extra French, that’s a series for some French learner and I love it! It’s just like the series Friends but
in French. I also do duolingo on a daily basis, so I think that could help a lot! And when you get more advanced, I think taking DELF would
also be an option for you to know which level you are in. By showering myself in French, it does help me to improve much faster.

française préférée et pourquoi résonne-t-elle en vous ? What’s your favorite French quote, and why does it resonate with you?
Ma
citation française préférée est en fait simple : C’est parti ! Ça veut dire « Allons-y ! » En général, quand le
professeur commençait la leçon, il disait « C’est parti » ou « On y va ! ». Ça me donne l’impression que ah c’est
l’heure du français, et que ça va être 3h d'un merveilleux voyage d’apprentissage. C’est comme une petite alarme pour moi, et j’adore.
J'ai cours après le travail, mais j’adore quand même ce voyage d’apprentissage avec le professeur et mes camarades ! Enfin, j’aime
beaucoup dire « Allons-y » en anglais, et même en français, je l’aime encore plus !
My
favourite French quote is actually a simple one – C’est parti! It actually means Let’s go! So usually, when the teacher started the
session, they would usually say C’est parti or On y va! It gives me a sense of oh it’s time for French, and it’s going to be a gorgeous 3h
of learning journey. Like a little alarm to me which I love. I’m taking class after work but still I love the learning journey with the
teacher and my classmates! One more thing, I actually love saying let’s go a lot in English and even in French I love it even more!
