Talk & Workshop : Discover la BD : la Bande dessinée (BD) - French Comics
Bandes déssinées (abbreviated as BD), literally "drawn strips" in French, refer to comics
originated in France and French-speaking countries and created for its audiences. They are considered as the "ninth
art" (le neuvième art)
in Francophone scholarship, in which the concept and the form of comics, as well as comics criticism are prevalent.
From their appearance in Switzerland in the mid-19th century, through its development in the 1950s and to the present days, the world of Francophone comics is rich in genres: westerns, comedy, police, futuristic science fiction. . . and graphic styles (clear line, big nose, realistic...). With our presenter Florian Bouton, also a French teacher himself, let's discover a part of this fabulous art world. Though it is not a drawing class, participants will take part in a small comics-related creative session.
The talk will take place in the AF Library where we have more than 1000 titles of French comics. What better way to learn about BD while being surrounded by tons of BD? We strongly invite all French learners, culture lovers and comics fans to join us on this occasion.
