Caroline Monnet is a multidisciplinary artist of Algonquin ancestry from Outaouais, Quebec. Her work seeks to communicate complex ideas around Indigenous identity and bicultural living through the examination of cultural histories. She is based in Montreal. Her first feature film entitled Bootlegger is selected for both CineMart and Berlinale Co-Production Market 2016. Following her residency in Paris, she won Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival 2017, an award granted by Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC) and the Cinéfondation.

Caroline Monnet est une artiste multidisciplinaire d’origine algonquine de l’Outaouais au Québec. Ses œuvres communiquent des idées complexes entourant les notions d’identité autochtone et de réalité biculturelle. Elle vit à Montréal. Son premier long métrage Bootlegger est sélectionné pour Cinemart et Berlinale Co-Production Market en 2016. Après sa résidence à Paris, elle remporte le Prix du meil-leurscénario au Festival de Cannes 2017, un prix décerné par le Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC) et la Cinéfondation.

About Bootlegger

Mani returns to her community in Northern Quebec. Her painful past resurfaces. But determined to make a place for herself, she gets involved in the debate surrounding a referendum to allow the free sale of alcohol on the reserve.

Laura, a bootlegger, pockets profits, covered by the tribal council.

As secrets are revealed and the community grows apart, the two women face each other as they decide which path to independence is best.
