On its creation

For Alexandre Tharaud, dance has always had a special place. And Chun-Wing Lam is as passionate about the piano as he is an admirable dancer. Together they embarked on a journey to revisit "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune" which has inspired so many choreographers since its creation by Nijinsky in 1912. During the pandemic and Paris lock-down, they worked fervently with director Raphaël Wertheimer and German choreographer Wun-Sze Chan, often by video; a project of six months, with eight hands.

They were then welcomed by the town of Fécamp to film the central passage of the film, then the Scène Nationale de Chambéry Savoie opened its doors for them to film the interior scenes. They also included le Château d'Argol by Julien Gracq which had guided them with its romantic and dark atmosphere. After two months of editing work, they have the film they wanted; one as close as possible to Debussy's music.

Chun-Wing Lam

Infatuated with music and dance since a young age, Chun-Wing worked hard to achieve his dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer and made history by becoming the first Hongkonger dancer to join the ranks of the renowned Paris Opera Ballet. He participated in many Nureyev productions such as La Bayadère, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, and Don Quixote. He was also given the opportunity to take part as a soloist in the renowned choreographer William Forsythe’s ballet - Herman Schmerman in 2017.
